A very interesting website for the conceptual Belgian label that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year… MaisonMartinMargiela.com cleverly impersonates an ftp directory - more specifically an Apache directory listing – which means complex lists of folders and files, images and documents like you would find on the index page of an unprotected website. There are even some unexpected and particularly amusing pop ups!
A minimalist aesthetic and a clever, audacious concept chiming perfectly with Margiela’s spirit: taking a playful swipe at classics.
MaisonMartinMargiela.com has been developed by Electronest - a French collective that ‘uses culture, knowledge and skills as a mean to develop new concepts, sustainable approaches and nice projects’. Creative heads Pierre Schmidt and Jerome Rigaud recent clients include the Serpentine Gallery and the Design Museum in London, electro band Daft Punk, and the uber cool collective Kitsuné.
The Luxuryst likes: a conceptual website for a conceptual designer.
The Luxuryst doesn’t like so much: hard to navigate / for computer literates only.

Fantastic article, keep up the good work.
